We got a quote to decorate our spare room, which we accepted. The guy said the job would be done in four days. A month later, following excuse afer excuse, the job remains unfinished and the work done so far is poor. I fired the guy and now he's demanding full payment. Where do we go from here?
This is a question relevant to UK law.

Take some advice on this one as he may just be one of those sorts that seem to know their way round the law...go to a local C.A.B. or a solicitors free surgery or even the BBC website has consumer rights on it..verbal contracts are binding but it sounds as though he has no chance of winning anything if he were to try

tell him to go forth does he have a contract if not he has no leg to stand on I had to deal with clowns ruining my house I threw them back to the circus. Ps The government should make laws against these con men you best bet is to ask people if they can recommend someone to do the job properly, get a contract drafted as well

Not enough info here really mate , but basically if he's given a written quote and hasn't honoured it then he is in breach of contract and has nowhere to go , end of !!
