I have a severe case of IBS. I have tried to work jobs before to to no avail. I either had to work through the pain for one day and miss the rest of the week or just quit because of the pain. I can barely leave the house... well the bathroom. Upon that I have poor circulation so I cannot stand for more than about an hour without pain in my feet.

I just did some snooping into it and it seems as tho you and possibly family members may qualify for SSDI or SSI depending on your circumstances. People do get it for IBS tho. Go to http://www.socialsecurity.gov or do a search for IBS and social security. Good luck and I know it sucks. I'd get a lawyer from legal services or someone from an independent living center for people with disabilities to help move your claim along. I've heard of people waiting 2 yrs.

I don't know about welfare, but it sounds like you qualify for disability. If you have worked enough and have had enough taken out on you, or if you are married, you can draw from your husbands social security.
my heart goes out to you. i went through the same thing, but mine was ulcerative colitis, then, chronic mono, hepatitis, even spinal meningitis one time, i never knew why i kept getting sick and it continued for 20 something years. i finally got a diagnosis and it was something called fibromyalgia and you can get disability for that, i just did 8 months ago.
good luck to you and i hope that you get better and get the support that you need! do you have any other pains or health problems? ibs is a symptom of fibromyalgia. it is an auto-immune disease with many symptoms.
