God condemns the serpent to crawl on his belly and eat dust for eternity. Since there is no evidence to support the fact that the serpant is Satan (and even if it did, revelations depicts satan on legs not crawling on his belly) and since we know serpants don't eat dust we come to 1 of 2 conclusions. Either 1. Bible contradiction or 2. Genesis cannot be taken literally (IE it is simply an allegory)

What do you think?

Actually if you read the bible closely, you will see that God handed out several punishments. For the women childbirth pain would increase and we are in subjection to the men. For the men he would work all the days of his life. For the snake he would crawl on his belly and eat dust. For Satan he will be crushed in the head.

The snake is not Satan. Satan used the snake as a mouth piece, in other words, got him to do the dirty work for him. Although Satan has yet to receive his punishment he will in the end.

Jesus had a bruised heel by the Crucifixion, but he lives. Where as Satan will receive a bruise on the head, meaning death.

In Genesis 3:14 we read, "And the Lord God said unto the serpent… “upon thy belly thou shalt go, and dust shalt eatall the days of thy life.”
Since snakes do not really appear to eat dust, this has been taken as an example of the Bible’s propensity to error.
In Micah 7:17 we read, "(The nations) shall lick the dust like a serpent."
Once again we have the situation where, as more information has come to light, the Bible has been shown to be not only accurate, but accurate in minute detail. Snakes do deliberately and purposely eat and lick dust.

There is an organ in the roof of a snake’s mouth called ‘Jacobson’s organ’. This helps the snake to smell in addition to its nose. Its darting, forked tongue samples bits of dust by picking them up on the points of the fork, which it then presents to its matching pair of sensory organs inside its mouth. Once it has ‘smelt’ them in this way, the tongue must be cleaned so the process can be repeated immediately.

Therefore serpents really do lick dust and eat it.

Chalk another one up for the Bible.

Aboriginal mythology (dreamtime) actually has the serpent as being a creator of the earth.....Ever wonder why god never gave them the chance to "have" his bible explanations? Why would god leave out a whole race of people?
The bible is rubbish. It comes from man not god.

You've posted somethings that are vaild and others that are not. This one isn't.

Serpants do eat dust, they use their tonuge to smell and they smell the ground all the time.

For the most part you ask good questions so keep it up :)

I'll take "Genesis cannot be taken literally" for a thousand, Alex.

Ask them about where Cain got his wife, then you'll see them tell you that Genesis can't be taken literally.
