What is the purpose of religion nowadays? Honestly, think about it. In an era of science such as today, we have disporved a lot of what the bible said. We know Adam and Eve is non-sense, we didn't miraculously appear on the planet, we evolved from apes. How is it possible to beleive what a book says in such a way? Do you honestly pick up a Sherlock Holmes book, read it, and beleive it actually happened?
Religion was brought about as a means of keepind society in order in days before police and military. It did this by scaring people into beleiving they would spend an eternity in hell if they did wrong. Now, we have police, who lock you in a cell if you do wrong.
I understand there are some good messages in the bible, and morally it is a good book. But why do people insist on beleiving every word it says, rather than taking the flesh, and throwing the bones to one side?
Debate.

There are good messages in the Christian Bible, the Bagavad Ghita, the Tibetan Book of the Dead, even the Book of Mormon, and especially that master of Arabic writing, the Koran, but they were all written with a limited purpose in mind, and a long time ago. Sifting out the 'marketing tools' and cultural edicts from the essence is a scholarly undertaking very few people try. It's much easier to debunk something than to understand it.
A perfect society is one in which everyone has the same opportunity to learn, to experience, to grow towards wisdom. It may not look like that from where you are, but that's the world you're standing in. So treat every problem as a challenge to be met, every enemy a friend who needs to be convinced of it, and realize that every time you fall down, the only direction to move is UP.

Ah, but you fail to metion one thing: they are all theories, evolution and what not (theories which I hold valid.)
I think the main point is, that there is quite a bit that we don't know still, coupled with the fact that science is based on theory and can be proven wrong. Some people are uncomfortable with that fact.
Also, it would seem to me that people need to believe in something larger than themselves, whether it be a god, corporation, etc. and feel as if they are connected in a larger way. As we become more secular the need for the spiritual may fade; however, the need for a larger force will still remain.

Actually its just now reaching the ripest time for it.
The cities of Cali, Columbia, Kiambu, Kenya, Hemet, California, and Amolongo, Guatemala have all experienced a total transformation in their towns because of what the Lord has done there. The cities united in Prayer and God changed those places around....Cali used to be run by drug lords and they are gone now....Kiambu used to have a satanic oppression over the town. Hemet used to be a large producer of Meth. And Amolongo had 4 jails and had to bus people to another town because all 4 were always full. Today all 4 jails are closed.
You can choose not to believe the Bible but it's made a big difference for more people than I can count.

You believe the Bible has been disproved. I don't, so I will keep the faith. The Bible exists for a purpose that has nothing to do with manipulating society. Science is known to be wrong often and has/is being used to manipulate.
You do, with your life, whatever you think is right. I'll do the same
Good luck.

I'm going out on a limb here, but I'm going to hazard a guess that you've never actually followed what God says to do in your life. You've never experienced for yourself that it is true and correct. Am I even close? :)
Science has tried to disprove God so much that it has done nothing more than prove that you can't disprove Him lol. If everyone now knows your "truth" then why do we still know He's there? That no matter what atheists have proclaimed since day one, the Word of God still reigns as truth today.

Oh, it depends on the religion you're talking about.
Christianity and Islam are definitely past the sell by date. But Buddhism, Taoism, and Wicca are good choices for people today.

No, obviously not considering that most people are religious! Whatever science has "proven" does not meet the deepest human needs and longings.

There is really nothing to debate! You don't know about the Bible so how do you expect to debate it? You also are somewhat ignorant about science or you wouldn't have said what you just did. There is nothing to debate with you except your ignorance about the subjects you think you can debate about...
