It depends on your dog, but most dogs can learn not to harm smaller animals. I used to have 2 ducks and a rabbit running around the backyard, and my dogs were friendly with them. (The ducks weren't friendly with anybody except each other, though.) You can probably teach your dog to get along fine with them, at least as much as the ducks will permit it!

If you are worried about your dog eating the new ducklings, he will probably eat them. Doxies and rat terriers are both hunting dogs. I suggest that you do NOT let the dog socialize with the ducklings.

He will in time get used to them, but you should help him to do this. Take the ducklings out and hold them with him by your side, let him smell and touch them but talk to him and teach him to protect them and eventually he will learn to do this. My neighbor had two large white rabbits and their doberman guarded those rabbits like they were gold. It was so cute!!!!
