One glass of Cabernet gives me a nice mellow buzz ... but I can drink 4- 5 mixed drinks (like rum and coke or vodka tonic) and not really feel a buzz at all. Before you preach ... I do not drink wine or liquor in order to get buzzed, but this odd effect is something that I recently noticed. Just wondered why!
Thanks!

A typical serving of wine is 6 oz and would have equivalent effect as a single cocktail.

If you are drinking larger classes of wine that could be the problem.

What do you eat when you drink wine?

If you drink on any empty stomach or have wine with fish and alcohol with a burger and fries chances are the grease is slowing down the absorption and you will not feel the effects as quickly.

The only other thing I might suggest is an allergic reaction to something in the wine. You maybe allergic to the tannins which come from the barrels that the wine is stored in.

So next time you have some wine or a cocktail pay attention to what you are eating.

Cheers

I'm the same way. My only explanation is what my husband suggested: Wine has a lower "proof" than liquor--meaning that wine is normally about 12% alcohol (24 proof) whereas liquor is about 35% alcohol (70 proof). When you drink mixed drinks, they're mixed with something non-alcoholic--fruit juice, soda, tonic water, etc. Wine is drunk straight--mixed with nothing. When you drink wine, you're drinking straight alcohol. When you drink mixed drinks, you're drinking, in essence, watered-down alcohol.

Allergic reactions to certin kinds of alachol is what I would think and have heard of. Dunno honestly but I have the same effect when I drink. I can drink half a fifth of vodka and feel almost nothing but if I drink a few beers I start feeling this calming relaxing feeling over my body.

God wants you mellow, nice, and probably buzzed for creative reasons so give someone special a tipsy nod.

I am an avid wine drinker. From what I understand, wine enters the blood stream more quickly.
