Not a good idea. The closer the bloodline, the higher the chance of birth defects - that's why it's taboo.

Wow, people here don't know how to do their research.
The fact is, the danger of having deformed/mutated children in a first-cousin relationship is not as high as one would think. Please see my source for an interesting article from Discovery Magazine.
So, physically, a first-cousin relationship would be okay. The pieces and parts fit, and any offspring isn't going to be a monster.
Emotionally is a whole other game. The fact is, first cousin marriages and relationships are not accepted in American culture. Many states have banned the practice, and stereotypes are perpetuated. As you can see from the answers above and below, many people are opposed to it.
Furthermore, it may strain your relationships with your family members and friends. Relationships are a big risk, and if you do decide to break up romantically, you can't break up your blood ties. Imagine having to see your ex-partner's whole life, and never getting any distance. And if there is a divorce, things get extra complicated, too.
So! If it's something you are still interested in pursuing: think long and hard, consider the benefits and long-term costs, and then discuss it with the rest of your close family.

I would avoid it. It would undoubtedly cause an uproar in your family. For me it would be a coin toss on which parent would hit the floor with a thud first. Nothing good can come out of Incest. That is unless it's a step cousin. Then I would say "No blood, no foul. Game On!

baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad. if you are in a relationship with a family member, you most likely have trouble distiguishing close to your heart relationships with true love.

blood cousins - big no no
Cousins by marriage - still aren't that good but bettert than blood cousins.
