I have had a really bad
tooth ache for a day or two now and I was hoping that it would get
better. The only thing that the dentist said that we could do is a
root canal, and that would take me at least 2 - 3 days to recover
from so .Well, it is not getting better, it is getting worse, and I can barely talk right now.

Ouch! I have the same problem. In the meantime 4 Advil work for me and fast. Also using anbesol has helped.,I just put it on with my finger all over cause a toothache can transfer pain to any of your teeth and gum areas. Get the root canal scheduled asap this will help the most.

It's been a few days, how is your tooth? Just wondering. I feel the pain brother.

WHAT is that dentist telling you ... if you go for a root canal then you will be sensitive (in that problem tooth) for a few days or a week ... but, , , there should not be any pain or other problem ..... best thing that you can do is find another dentist that you can trust to do the proper work for you --- after all he is working for you and you are paying him to do the correct job .. FIND ANOTHER DOCTOR and feel good and quit feeling the pain ....

If you need root canal therapy, chances are not much else is going to help you unless you take the whole thing out!

But as far as painkillers go, look for an anti-inflammatory. Get your doctor or dentist to give you a prescription for a stronger one.

go ahead with your dentists' instructions. trust me, it will continue to get worse and probably infected if it isn't already. then, instead of having only a root canal done, you'll have to take about 1 wks. worth of antibiotics before the dentist can do any work. good luck and take good care of those teeth!!

I've had a root canal, and went about my life as usual- no recovery period required. (it's not surgery, after all) Pain meds as others have suggested should help, also, a heating pad helps.

ooooh, toothaches are the pits...take some ibuprofen as a pain killer and anti-inflamatory. anbesol will numb pain, as long as it is centralized in one place - otherwise, an ice pack will numb it temporarily. don't use a heating pad - it will increase blood flow and make it throb! schedule that root canal soon - you'll be glad you did!
