My fiancee and I are eloping and planning a party for both of our families to meet this August (I have a large family - 23 aunts and uncles). I'd like to be able to invite everyone to announce our marriage. I was thinking about having a BBQ outside, but where should we hold it and what activities should we have? What party themes are there that will work with this?

Sounds like fun. If you are in the U.S. you can rent out forest preserve areas. They will supply all the tables, you supply food and drink. You could set up volleyball/badmitton nets. You could even rent a big jumping tent for kids. I would do that. Then decorate all the trees and tables with those white crepe paper wedding bells and yellow ribbons. That would be pretty and cheap and festive. Good Luck!!

You could always have an actual reception. You could rent space at a park if a bbq is what you have in mind, you can still have a cake and maybe even if you have it indoors, you can still have the whole dance floor thing. Also, maybe the bride/groom dance where people pay you and your groom to dance with you. You also can decorate it just like a reception would, and I am learning that isn't that expensive.

Anyways, I hope that all helps you out!! Good luck!!!

Try a park, renting a building, or community center. A bbq is a great idea. As for party--a celebration for you two getting hitched! Streamers, etc. Balloons. Have balloons for the kids to take home, if you want to. Use your "colors" of the wedding for the decorations, etc. for your party. Take care.
