I wanted to buy a digital camera and i came down to three choices
1. nikon coolpix s3
2. Sony Cyber-shot DSC
3. HP Photosmart R927

My requirments are not too much i am just looking for an easy to operate camera which has good picture taking abilities and excellent zoom. I wanted to know if the nikon was a good choice over the other two.

I'd go with the Sony Cyber-shot DSC , If you want it I saw it on sale at the Ritz Camera site, they also got some promos at http://www.prioritycodes.com/Electronics/RitzCamera.com-Priority-Codes/index.html for a discount

We can't really give you a fair answer here. "Sony Cybershot DSC" is what Sony names ALL of its cameras, except their dSLR. We need a model number to do a proper comparison. Sony makes a number of nice cameras.

For Nikon, the S3 is getting kind of dated. Consider the S500, which will list for $300 and probably sell for less "on the street." The P5000 should restore some of Nikon's P&S credibility.

I would go with the Cyber-shot I have only used sony cameras, and they have reat zoom, the controls are very easy, and the quality is very very very good, they have great sensitivities, this way you can take pictures in dark areas without the use of disturbing flash, and the price is reasonable,

if any cyber shot i would recommend it would be the

s500 or the s600

Nikon isn't as good of a company as it used to be.
Also Nikon only makes good 35mm cameras anyway.

Sony is the way to go. I have returned 3 different digital cameras before I got my Sony cyber shot.

It is easy to operate and takes excellent pictures.

By your criteria if excellent zoom means lots of zoom, go with the camera I bought. About $300, 5 megapixels, 12X optical zoom, excellent 8X10s when enlarged, comes with batteries and charger, has image stabilizer, 1 sec delay between shots. It's Sony CyberShot DSC-H2. Very good on batteries.

Sony Cybershots are my renowned fashions, yet Canons additionally are marvelous. Optical zoom is the place the lenses of the digital camera certainly circulate around to alter the focal length of the digital camera. certainly this magnifies the image just about completely. digital zoom makes use of equations and algorithms to tell the digital camera what the image "probably" sounds like. The digital zoom additionally lowers the call of the image, that's a 2d hit to image high quality. digital zoom is only common poor: keep away from employing it in any respect expenses.

Well definitely a Sony. Nothing but a Sony. The Coca-Cola of Digital Camera. The Real Thing. Well as you can see, I am an avid unashamed biased Sony fan. Check it out http://www.geocities.com/lcming/sony or http://www.geocities.com/lcming/cameras
