I really need to create a magazine cover with my photo on it for a class and I just got Photoshop but I don't know how to even begin. Can you give me quick tips while I make my way through the instruction manual?

you will need two images, the image of the magazine cover and your picture.

first load the image of the magazine.

then load the image of you.

you should now have two images open.

drag the picture of you onto the image of the magazine using the move tool (V)

you should now have two layers, the background (magazine) and your picture (layer 1)

Positition your picture to where you want it on the cover.

hide the background layer by clicking the eye next to it on the layers tab.

click layer 1 (your picture) to select it.

use the erase tool to clean up the edges and remove anything you dont want to show up on the finished picture.

you can hide and unhide the background to check what the finished image will look like.

Once you are satisfied with the results unhide the background.

Select the layer menu and click flatten image.

Save it to your desired file type.

Utilize layers. Think layers.

Your question is way too involved to help without knowing specifically what you are trying to accomplish.
Click on "Help" and then click on "Contents".
