Your credit card reservation holds the room until you arrive. The card serves as security in case you fail to show.
If you choose not to show up the card will be charged unless you call to cancel the reservation within the time limits set by the hotel.
Normally, once you're there, you will be asked whether you wish to use the credit card given for the reservation, another card, or cash before you register.

Depends how you made the reservation. If you made it thru book reservation you might get charged, also depends on the hotel's policy. You can find out here: http://www.bookmyownreservation.com/ .

Normal practice is they ask for a credit card up front to just to hold the reservation. Many places will hold it until late afternoon if no credit card is given. They then check it again when you arrive, but normally you don't pay until you settle up at check out when you leave.
How are you paying? Although the above is the norm, there are some that take payment from your cc when you book. This is mostly Internet bookings (not all - a low percentage of Internet bookings) and either direct on hotel website, or a travel website. The situation is a pay now lowest rate. You get the supposed lowest room rate, but there aren't refunds and they take payment now.
So, normally you pay a hotel when you leave, but you have to read your terms and conditions.

Websites that offer pre-payment for the hotel room usually have a better price than if you pay at the hotel, paying at the hotel means that you got the normal published hotel rack rate not any special deal. Websites that required pre-payment has negotiated these prices with the hotel and have direct agreement with them. I used http://www.hotelsboss.com and prepay my hotel room and I got good deals. You can also compare hotel prices from all major hotel reservation websites to find the best prices, check http://www.hoteloogle.com

Depends on what site you use and what their conditions are. I would ask the hotel or find out online when it would be charged.
Going with Orbitz, they take it out immediately.
Going with another site (I forget if it was Expedia or Travelocity or the hotels online site), it was reserved with my CC, but I didn't pay until I checked out.
