if you look in the bible, most of the women in there are viewed as man's equal. They also must have been incredible women, to have to put up with their husbands and do whatever was required of them, since the majority of the men were prophets. They women would have had to deal with a man who the rest of the world thought was crazy, dealing with losing their homes and posessions because of being persecuted because of their husbands.
And in answer to one of the answers previously, Eve must have known what she was doing. Adam and Eve had just two commandments they were to Go forth and multiply and not to eat the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. They could not have had fulfilled both, They had to break one to fulfill the other. She needed to choose which one she was going to keep, and being female she most likely wanted to have children and to raise them, and she could not do that if they were to stay in the Garden of Eden.
Also in the church that I'm a member of, the Relief Society is basically just a club for women in the church over the age of 18, men cannot join. The Relief Society president is ALWAYS a woman as is the Young Women's president, I believe. The sisters in our church have very important roles in the church, to nuture and care for their families, especially since that is the nature of a woman anyway. Women help their husbands in their callings, and women can have their own callings, go on missions, most of the stuff that the men can do, except for having the priesthood, which they dont want anyway because that would mean more responsibilty than the men.
In our religion also, logic tells us that if we are to have a Heavenly Father (God), then we also have a Heavenly Mother.

You dont know what your talking about! God is One; He is the Father, He is the Son, He is the Holy Spirit. He is also the King, the Creator, The Most Holy, Perfect, The Shepard, The Counselor, The First and Last, The Great I AM..ect..Where's mom? Wisdom is the feminine. She was with Him when He created the earth. She calls out to us, constantly. How we must frusterate her; especially that we will not head her call. Women are not suppose to serve men, they are suppose to serve God. Married women are to allow their husbands to be the leader- that is not a bad thing(unlesstheman does not obey God) If the man is obeidiant to God, then this is the correct arrangement of things, and it is a wonderful blessing to his wife and children. Wonderful blessing! I am a wife and I am by no means my husbands servant. I am his equal, and we are one, in the eyes of the Lord. Someone distorted the meaning of submission; and it is a darn shame. Submit to God. Submit to your husband...where their is trust and love; submission is a very fufillingthing. It takes a courageous and strong woman to have the kind of trust, to know that her husband will do what is best for her and their children. It takes a strong and wise husband, to deserve this honor. Not many men do. God is always first, though. If a man is walking in the Lord, this will never be a demeaning thing. It is pure joy.

where's mom fit in? no where. where's wife fit in? you don't wanna know...
no, it isn't sexist. God said for women to be submit to their own husbands BUT He also said that a husband is to love and respect his wife, loving her as Christ loved the church, and He goes on to describe love (1 corinthians 13:4-8)
also, God treats his children equally. a woman isn't entitled to more blessing than a man, nor vise versa. where you see instructions of women in church, it speaks of order, not sexism. in a patriarchal society, a woman speaking before a man or cutting a man off was disrespectful, and therefore not allowed. also, the cultures of the day were kept, as not to bring negative stereotypes on the church for that reason in society. really, that's all.
and FYI, we're all supposed to be servants.

Not really. Women are what they are. The Bible teaches they are supposed to be lesser in authority, but they are not a lesser creation. The Bible says we should all serve each other!

Yes. It has been the biggest stumbling block for women's emancipation throughout history. And the whole masculinity of it annoys me when in nature and the animal kingdom and humans too it is the female that is the life-giver. That's why I like Paganism, it acknowledges the feminine life-giving force or source of the planet.
