Because every time somebody makes a deal with the devil, it always comes back to bite him/her in the a ss.
ALWAYS.
If God gives you something, you don't have to do anything in return, or face nasty consequences.
Watch Bedazzled, man.
All the proof you need.

Edit: Satan is like Prometheus? What are you smoking?
Prometheus required NOTHING from humans for his gift of fire! He suffered willingly just to help humans out, because he thought the gods were unfair.
Satan, on the other hand, is a nasty, brutish, cruel bastard who always gives people a bum deal--he tricks them into thinking they're getting something great, but they always wind up reaping terrible consequences.
And if you read the Bible correctly, GOD made the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. Not Satan! Adam and Eve had the choice between eternal blissful ignorance or mortality with knowledge.
GOD gave humans the choice between knowledge and eternal ignorance.
The Devil is a nasty trickster.
Geez, haven't you ever read Faust? Heard the opera?

Because we are all part of the same thing therefore God is the devil and they are both our saviour.
But it also means you are the devil and I am God, or vice versa, so there you go.

Is knowledge evil that God would want to keep it from us? Why did God want to keep us from gaining knowledge? Did he want to keep us subservient slaves groveling under his feet? It seems to me that we owe Satan thanks and worship for his help. Satan seems rather like the Titan Prometheus, who in defiance of the orders of the gods brought man the knowledge of fire. For this service to man, Prometheus like Satan was subjected to torment and torture for all eternity. Certainly human life would be worth a great deal less that it is without love, fire and knowledge.
