The bible is a fixed document living in a world with a constantly evolving moral zeitgeist. There are many passages in the bible that we don't accept today. Why this ancient morality has stuck can only be attributed to the most base of human traits- that which tends to hate anything different then themselves.
It's time for the church to take a stand and revise its position on this archaic passage that is used only to discriminate.

Oh, good GOD, friendship! An ashen area was found near the Dead Sea according to Christian sites online and someone said "Hey, these sites once had ancient ruins on them - see that big hunk of ash sitting there for two thousand years looking like a castle? That's proof. Yes, it stayed an ash palace that long! No, I didn't build the damn thing out of ash! I swear to God!" - and this is "proof" of anything, let alone the fact that homosexuality is an "abomination"?
Re-read Sodom and Gomorrah. Zero Cool made some excellent points about it. The problem is, that foolish old Bible hates just about everyone so I'm sure that meant homosexuals as well. The quote in the original text of Leviticus was translated as "homosexuals" by Martin Luther in the 16th century. It's literal meaning is "male PROSTITUTION". Good old Luther threw his own meaning in for sh*ts and giggles.
The wonderful Lot sent his daughters out to be raped so his male guests wouldn't be. There's a great moral leader. If we all thought like him, we'd all be dead.
Hillary, since everyone gave you passages, all I can tell you is that the passages referenced may not have been about homosexuality at all - and any benevolent God would never treat two consenting adults of the same sex so shabbily.
Why is it that many Christians only quote the New Testament when it is convenient for them, yet say they do not agree with the portrayal of God in that same book?

The Bible says a lot about homosexuality, but most of the time, they talk about it with other subjects, such as polygamy or rape.
When the Bible was first translated into English, the concept of homosexaulity was not developed. Gay people were viewed as heterosexual people who sometimes slept with people of the same sex.
The Bible, in its original Greek and Arabic versions, say nothing about monogamous homosexual relationships. However, this does not mean that God approves of homosexuality in any way.
"Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God. Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried. May the Lord deal with me, be it ever so severely, if anything but death separates you and me." Ruth 1:16-17.
In this passage, however, there is no indication that the relationship between Ruth and Naomi was sexual.
"And Jonathan made a covenant with David because he loved him as himself. Jonathan took off the robe he was wearing and gave it to David, along with his tunic, and even his sword, his bow and his belt." 1 Samuel 18:3-4.
"After the boy had gone, David got up from the south side of the stone and bowed down before Jonathan three times, with is face to the ground. Then they kissed each other and wept together - but David wept the most." 1 Samuel 20:41.
These passages may seem that God approves of homosexuality, but there are also passages that seem to say the opposite.
"...the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter." Genesis 19:4.
God destroys the city of Sodom because the men wanted to sleep with the angels, thinking that they were men too. It's possible that this message is actually condemning promiscuity. It is not clear.

Genesis 19 - God destroys 2 cities because their sexual immorality. Notice verse 4. Jude 7 indicates that Sodom and Gomorrah’s punishment was due to their sexual perversion

Lev 18:22 - Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable.
Lev 18:29 - Everyone who does any of these detestable things--such persons must be cut off from their people.
Lev 20:13 - If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.

Jude v.7--as Sodom and Gommorah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual imorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.
Romans 1:27--"Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due."

Romans 1 read the chapter it says it comes from unthankfulness and worshiping the created rather than the creator
I Corinthians 6:9-13 says and effeminate and such were some of you but you have been cleansed by the blood of Jesus-

I have read the entire thing, but I seem to remember a passage during the Sodom & ghorrorah where the people inside the house wanted to send out their virgin daughters for the mob to rape them so they would not commit homosexual rape on their guests. Which is morally wrong????!!!!
