There are many things you can do. A few things to keep in mind:
1. Follow through with your arm swing...do not stop your arm swing once you have contacted the ball.
2. Snap your wrist as you are contacting the ball. This will cause the ball to dip faster, and allow you to put more force behind it without hitting out of bounds.
3. Step into your serve. When you can put your body weight behind it, it will help a lot.
4. Work out your arms and upper body for strength.
5. Learn to jump serve! This allows you to put all of your body weight behind the serve (if done properly). You can always start with a jump float serve and then work into the snap. It's not as hard as it seems and will help you with hitting off the net as well.

1. Keep your feet planted and Watch the Ball.
2. Keep your hand wide open, exposing your palm.
3. Extend your arm. It will generate more power.
For example: When someone swings a baseball bat or golf club, the end of the bat or club moves faster than it does toward the grip. The same is true for your arm. Your hand is moving faster than your shoulder. The more you extend your arm to make it longer, the more power will be generated at the end of it. So try and contact it high not low by your head.

If you are doing overhand, take your time and make sure that the palm of your hand goes to the middle of the ball. Sometimes, you can think of the ball as another person's face (someone you hate). If it's underhand, again take your time and don't throw up the ball too high, only about an inch.

do an underarm serve............. and practice it
---when u serve, hit the ball as if its your enemy, or if you prefer--your lucky ball that gives you luck when you serve it powerfully
---have confidence that u will do it powerfullly
---serve the ball clearly
---do the underarm serve step-by step;;;steping foward with your right foot(if your right handed)then hitting your enemy thats nice to you only when you hit it powerfully and then is nice to u
---and hit the ball (serve)with yiour thumb IN your fingers(between them)
-------------also try your best, but don't overdo it...........it takes lots of practice
good luck and hope you become better (+tell me how it went--e-mail me--if u want)

instead of throwing the ball really high throw the ball in front of you so you can see it open your hands and use your power when you serve the ball..

everyone has their own style, so i can't guarantee that this will work for you, but I have a lower toss than normal, I make my hand as big as it will go so I contact more surface area on the ball, and I arch my back before I make contact giving me more force for when I do.

Hit a flat serve.
Hit the ball at the apex (highest point) after the ball toss.
Bend your knees and use your hips.
