Pitbulls and German Shepherds are excellent family dogs. You will get some people that respond and not really know the pitbull breed, they fear what they read. Pits have even been pets of presidents, must not be that bad. As long as you go to a reputable breeder and get a pit you should have no problems, they're absolute the biggest babies you'll ever meet. Pits have gotten a bad rep over the years because people are misinformed they think every dog that looks like a pit is evil and will bite/attack your kids, so not true. You just have some evil people and some ignorant people around the breed. Poms can get snippy with kids.

FIRST of all, pit bulls jaws do not lock, they are just strong. If they had a locking jaw they would be an entirely new species.
I own a pit bull, and I know that they are Woderful dogs, and family companions. I have worked with dogs my whole life, and a pit bull is my favorite breed. THey are smart, loving, and loyal. The only reason I would not recommend a pit bull around young children is because pit bulls are VERY high energy dogs, and they can accidentally knock over a small child. And their tail wags like MAD, and it stings my leg when it hits me, I'm sure it would hurt a child too. But pit bulls Love kids, they love to play with kids, and they will protect your kids. But I would not recommend a pit bull around young children.
And the same with young German Shepherds, they have a lot of energy when they are puppies, and can accidentally knock down a small child. But with older children (12 and up) I think both of these dogs make great companions.
Pomeranians are very small, and young children might not know how to handle a small dog like a pomeranion, so just be sure to show your kids how to handle a small dog. Make sure they know that it is fagile and you have to Play Nice with it.
And children and dogs should not be left unattended for Any reason, no matter what breed the dog is. No matter what dog you get, make sure you children are old enough to handle the dog, and make sure they know how to nicely play, and never leave them unattended.

A well bred German Shepherd is wonderful around children and a joy to be owned by! I adopted my long haired, honey coloured boy, Shane, when he was 9... sadly I lost him to incurable illness last year, at the age of 13. Never once did I have cause for concern with him in the company of my 2 girls who are now 10 and 11.
He was loyal, gentle and faithful to the end and as long as you choose a dog from a reputable source you can't go wrong with a German Shepherd.

I would have to say that there are not any "stupid dogs" just STUPID owners. If the dog is brought up around children then naturally it will be used to them. I have a five year old dog and he is "ok" around kids....but yet he is definitely NOT used to them. I got Ben in my early twenties and did not have any children around at the time. He is definitely timid around children, however if you properly socialize the dog then you should be ok. It really all depends on the breed and how they are raised. An animal lover myself....the only breed I do not reccommend around children is Chows (regardless of how they've been brought up). I hope this helps.

I wouldn't have the pit bull around any child trained or not many people have said that they are really not dangerous as people make them out to be but that's not true they are vicious dogs and are very dangerous to have. Many people will disagree but it's a matter of researching your own self to see that it's true what I'm saying

I had a german shepherd when i was a kid, and we just got another one a month ago, and I know that they are great dogs for everyone if you train them young. I can't say anything about the other two becuase I never had them.

None of those three. The first two have instinctual factors that can lead to attacks on kids, and many small dogs like Pomeranians have a naturally aggressive nature and/or bark frequently. This can occur even when they're "well trained". If it were me, I'd lean toward a dog similar to a black lab, or a retriever. Just my opinion, so take it for what it's worth. Hope this helps, though.

People don't recommend the Pit Bulls, but they can be so loving. I don't know what to tell you. What about a pincher or Lab? German Shepherds are a great choice.

I agree with mikayla. The thing you need to worry about with a German Shepherd is that they are herding dogs and may (probably will) try to herd your children... for example, they may nip them at the ankles to convince them to go where they want them to.
I still contend that Labs are the best dogs ever, though!!
