The only sure fire way to tell is to have your vet DNA test them. The others here mentioned other ways to tell, but those are not mistake proof.

Since I'm assuming that you want to breed, the only way to tell for sure and to not waste a lot of time is to have them sexed. You'll want to make sure they're healthy before you breed them anyway, so when you have your annual well check exam, just ask them to sex them for you.

If this is an Australian Cockatoo, then they eyes can be a good indication. Females eyes are brown to red, while male's eyes are black. This only works with mature birds though.

There is no way to tell by not touching it. You will have to take it to the vet and have them them clip a claw down to the quick to get a single drop of blood. They send it off for DNA. It is very accurate and expensive.

p.s. If it is has a c0ck or two....it's male

If the eyes are brown...then it is a female! If it is another color then it is a male! What kind of cockatoo do you have.....Goffin or umbrella?

There are only two absolutely accurate ways -- surgical and DNA. Both need to be done by an avian vet.
