To get ready for boot camp here are a few things you should be able to do
1. Initial Strength Test - the absolute minimum
1.5 mile run in or under 13 minutes and 30 seconds
45 crunches in 2 minutes
2 pullups
After the IST test, it becomes the pft or physical fitness test. For a male under the age of 27 the maximum standards are
3 mile run in under 27 minutes and 59 seconds, the best
time is 18 minutes
100 crunches in 2 minutes
20 pullups, all the way down, all the way up and no
kipping
Study the:
General Orders
Leadership Principles
Leadership Traits
Core Values
Rank Structure
If you are able to do these things, you will be miles above the rest of the recruits

Definitely ignore some of the jerks on here, they probably could not pass the ASVAB with a high enough score to be a Marine.
My fiance is a Marine, make sure you can run the miles required in the time allowed.... I think its 3 miles in under 21 minutes (check with local recruiter about time).... Make sure you can do about 15 pull ups (number I am not sure about I think you have to do at least 10) and 100 sit ups in a certain time frame... Basically be very physically fit so when you get to boot camp you can concentrate on the discipline part of the job and not have to worry about passing the physical part of the job.... Once you sign up your local recruiter will help you get in the right shape to ship out to boot camp... Good Luck

Won't it be great to be part of a great team, help the country, show how tough we are, and stand tall?
You know, I asked this question too.
I am going too, I hope.
I was told to just listen to instructors, get in shape (already in great shape), and focus.
Don't give up.
I have been having friends spray me with water hoses, wake me up at different times, and lift stuff for long periods over my head (to simulate holding rifle over head).
I learned to fire an .22 rifle, but one of my answerers said this was not enough.
The military channel is neat, but like another person said, I don't think I will be doing all of that.
People say the Marines walk a lot, so you may want to do that. I have been walking and running miles, until I almost pass out, to be ready.
Now I have to gain weight. A friend of mine is going to help me, but I don't gain weight easily.
I just found this website. http://www.prepareforbootcamp.com/ijoin.html
I am going to order his course and see if it helps.
Good luck to you and hopefully I will get in too. Only God matters more!

I might help ya with that...
(FROM A MARINE)
"Oh this little ***** wants to join my Marine Corps...he thinks he is ready to be one of us.....
Look at you typing asking fruity questions about my gun club...your probably too fat sitting in your mother's basement to MAKE REAL friends that you sit on the computer all day talking to total strangers. Sitting on your butt all day on a computer .....do you even know what a push-up is? do you even know what outside looks like? My Drill Instructors will make sure that you NEVER be one of us. You won't survive BLACK FRIDAY....they will break you..pop your cherry...rip your teeth out.....cave your face in....tear you a new asshole...
bust your stomach wide open.....and leave you for dead in the sand. My Marine Corps has no time to train computer nerds like you...they are too busy training real men and women who want to save lives and take them too...why don't you just stay at home and play on your computer and get a geek girl....on second thought don't get a girl I don't want you producing....I don't want to hear your kids asking the same dumb *** question.
look at you you can't even type "ready" I know if your misspelling orders to my Sargent's and we get the targets wrong I'll shove those misspelled words up your love hole you will be misspelling out of your mouth for the rest of your life!!!"
Oh by the way Thank you for serving our country and see you in a fighting hole ....recruit!!

Hit yourself in the head with a hammer until your IQ drops below 90.
Also, beef up, and shave off your body hair. Dumb, smooth, and butch is very popular with those closet cases.
Good luck!
