why is the magnitude of everything measured in hiroshoma bombs... very few of us were there!

Although we wern't there... even fewer of us can relate to the destructive power of 13 to 16 kilo tons of TNT. Since Hiroshima was the first city to be attacked with a nuclear bomb most of us have seen the historical films documenting the damage. Also most of us can also relate to other measurements of scale.

1 mile radius of total destruction with 90000 killed instantly. (not counting other deaths from burns and radiation )

So scaling up from that you can imagine how devastating a 50MegaTon H-bomb would be....
