what do you think of it? are people who look for love online just "desperate"? (i don't think so, but i've heard such comments). have you heard of a significant number of these relationships resulting in marriage?

Africanadvise you dork, ppl can ask questions; it doesn't mean we're referring to ourselves. Yes i am in a relationship and not looking for anyone else. My question stemmed from a conversation i'd had with friends, and i wanted to get some other opinions.

Not much, I've only met a few people that have tried it.

I don't think the people are desperate, I think a lot of them are having a hard time getting out or meeting the right kind of person.

Although, it doesn't hurt to live in a big city, because you'll probably have better options. And I know this because I created a fake and hilarious (at the time) account with my friend on one of the major online dating sites a year or so ago. We got some great responses (in terms of laughs) but we soon lost interest and I can't even recall the member name we created. Anyway by the looks of the site, there were a few people that appeared attractive, and more who seemed accomplished or interesting. The rest were.... How could I put it nicely? Well, you could understand why they felt the need to look online... Of course when we looked in other cities, there was a better variety.

Give it a try! What do you have to lose? I've heard of a lot of people meeting the one online.

I wouldn't say online dating is "desperate" I think people should use it as a last ditch effort for a relationship. I mean there is speed dating and stuff like that. Safer, and in public places.

I heard about one couple marrying on TV once.

But as always, you have to be very careful with online dating. The internet is full of psychos, so it's always good to remember that.

Alright, for one thing. Some of it is just a desperate act to get someone and have online sexual pleasure (masturbation).
Some of it is when you REALLY like the person and you really cannot help it. I know because I like my best friend who's online and he lives in Colorado, where I might be moving to.
You really can't help your feelings on this one. Some people to get married from people online. Eharmony.com.
Anyways, it can be a desperate act or it can be just a feeling that one person has to another.

I have tried online dating and so have many of my friends. I have only known one successful marriage and that was my sisters - she met a man, dated for 2 months, got married and found out he is worth 48 million dollars! So, she did alright! But most of us found that the people on there are committment fobs - so you can meet alot of friends but maybe not a steady relationship - good luck!

not desperate, just generally just too tired or not enough time to look for a relationship. online dating makes it easier...but you have to be careful nothing bad happens. i'm sure marriages have occured, but i don't use those sights, so i got no idea.
