I am looking for a basset hound puppy... does anyone know where I could get one around $100? My husband is in love with them but $700 is just to much... when you think about shipping and all the dog stuff you have to get... I want to give a puppy a forever home but just haven't been able to find anyone that would cut the price!

It has been my experience that a puppy for $100 is not common, but if you contact some breeders they will sell (or give) 3 year olds to good homes. I have two Bassets, and I have found that if you buy a quality dog it will actually SAVE you money.

Let me give you an example... we paid a very low price for our first puppy Bandit, and since he has cost us at least $2,000 in medical bills. Nothing major, but he's just been a sickly puppy (as has the rest of his litter, so we've heard) and he is only six months old! We got our second puppy Copper from BFH Bassets and he has been just perfect! They insure their puppies for a year, and are all around wonderful people to work with. We didnt have a lot of money, but got in contact with them, put $50 down as a deposit, and as soon as the puppies were born Belinda sent us pictures to pick from. We picked out Copper, got pictures every week, and the only requirement was that the puppy had to be paid for before he was shipped to us. This breeder is in Mississippi and we live in California, but I felt like if we needed anythin they were right there to help.

I really cant tell you enough how much I highly reccomend them and hope you will consider buying a quality puppy (espically since Bassets are a tough breed to begin with) their website is http://www.bfhbassets.com , and even if you dont buy from them, they have wonderful information on what to look for in a puppy (we actually considered their site first with Bandit, but because money was tight went elsewhere for a puppy).

If you can go without getting a puppy, consider adpotion at this link http://www.nybasset.org or http://www.bassethoundrescue.com/maindefault.htm

Bes of luck to you!

I would call your local animal shelter and ask whether they have or receive any basset hounds.

You can be notified if/when any come into the shelter. This may be time consuming however, and if you're not prepared to wait, you may want to ask if there are any localized basset hound rescue shelters in the area.

go to your local pound/ animal shelter.
i adopted both of mine for 65 bucks each.
plus, would you rather buy a dog that is in good health, or save one that its owner gave up or was abandoned?
