I love ALL American Pit Bull Terriers. I absolutly think they are the best dogs. I adopted a 1 year old femal pit bull from the Humane Society. She is my perfect dog. We adopted her about 3 weeks ago. When we adopted her she was not potty trained, she did NOT know how to walk on a leash, and she didn't know any tricks, not even sit. Now she is Completely Potty Trained, she walks very well on a leash, and heals the whole time, and she knows how to sit, stay, down, shake with both hands, sit pretty, and we are working on roll over. But I am most impressed by her stay. Even when I put a piece of juicy chicken on the floor she will stay forever until I tell her it is okay to come and get it.
I love pit bulls because they are so sweet and loving. They are very people oriented, and they just want to please their owners. I also like them because they are a medium sized dog with short hair so they don't shed a lot. They also have the energy to go on long walks and play hard when outside, but also know when to relax and watch a movie. My dog loves everyone and everything, and when I tell people she is a pit bull they are shocked. Most people see pit bulls as bad dogs, but they really are wonderful family pets, and they are very smart dogs.

The most intelligent breeds tend to be the ones that need the most training. I.E poodles, dobermans, rottweilers, bully breeds [bull terriers, american staffordshire terriers, american pit bull terriers, staffordshires], mastiffs, border collies, huskies, spaniels, great danes, etc. Most of the terrier breeds are very intelligent. Many also require a great deal of exercise to keep them happy. Boxers are great family dogs, as pugs and the bully breeds. Golden retrievers and labs are easily trainable and good family dogs, but are not as highly intelligent as others.
There is a perfect pet out there for everyone. Research the breeds extensively, and pick one that best fits your lifestyle.
Or, better yet: Adopt a mutt from a shelter.
There are also specific breed rescues.

I'm not sure what the smartest dog breeds are, but I like mutts the best. They can be very smart, cute, lovable, and often don't have as many health problems as purebred dogs.

Border Collies are among the most intelligent breeds. They are also loyal and good with people. But personally, I think my pit bull is the best dog out there.

Beagles. They are smart, but very stubborn, but they are the best. They have fantastic personalities and are great family dogs. Our Beagle is a blast to have around.

Go to a pound and let the dog pick you. Most mutts are smarter than purebreds.
