Cats need more protein (and Taurine) in their diet than dogs do, so cat food is richer than dog food and may upset the dog's stomach. If my dog gets into the cat food she gets gas. Some dogs will also get diarrhea.

The cats get upset. Cat food is higher in protein that dog food. The worst that will happen to the dog is they will get gas and gain weight. My dog will only eat cat food, possibly because she is 17 and the size of the food is just right for her, or she likes the taste of it. But either way, she hasn't been effected by it.

The cats get no food. My ole Border Collie would steal cat food at any chance. She is going to be 14 yrs old in a few weeks. Never hurt her, she was smart enough to wait for the cat to leave the bowl. That would of hurt trying to steal from a cat still eating

This is not as bad as a cat eating dog food, but it is still not good for your dog. Your dog could get a bad case of diarrhea, but probably not anything else.

It shouldn't be a problem if they eat some, but cat food has more protein than dog food, so dogs probably shouldn't eat a lot of it.

they get fatter. cat food contains more oils and fats. its richer so this could cause upset but nothing real bad. try putting bowl up where cat can get like dryer. some think the other is getting something special so they have to have it to. some are pigs and save thiers for later. good luck keep it high.

aside from the possibility of diarrhea, they are not recieving the nutrition that they need for their species, and vice versa if cats eat dog food.

My vet told us that all it would do is make her poop stink due to the higher protein content. The higher protein may also cause weight gain.
