Just wondering because I am a size 1 but I am 5'1" and I weigh 118 pounds and the chart says you have to be under 105 to be a size 1. But then again I'm in sports so I have muscle mass. The whole pants size thing never made sense to me.

Muscle does not weigh more than fat as the first person who answered this posted...one pound weighs one pound whether it is a pound of feathers, a pound of muscle or a pound of fat!

What the first poster was trying to get across is that muscle is more dense than fat. Meaning that if you have the same volume of muscle and the same volume of fat, the muscle would weigh more.

Bottom line is that your body composition is what determines pant size, not your weight.

Different manufacturers have different sizes of pants. . .and I have several sizes in my closet, everything from zero to three and in some vintage clothing I can be as big as a size five!! But the best fitting pants for me I find (as a petite) in the children's section. Mostly I take a kid's size 14 regular, being about five foot one and between 110-115 pounds. So I would say no weight has nothing to do with it since sizes vary by pants label, how old the pants are (vintage or new) what fabrics they are made out of (stretch pants anyone?) and the style of the pants also (hip hugger, jeans, slacks, etc.)

Muscle weighs more than fat so you might be a size 1 and fit into size 1 clothes but not be the recommended weight for that size. It doesn't matter what size clothes you are wearing, as each different brand has a different size. You could be a size 1 in some brands, a size 2 in others, etc.

What matters is that your weight is healthy for your age and height.

Just remember that muscle does weigh more than fat.

No, pants size is determined by the size of your body frame, amount of muscle and fat you have and your body proportions.

I've never seen a clothes size chart according to weight, it should be dictated from measurements.

So a size 1 would usually be 32-24-34 (Bust, Waist, Hips).

HTH : )
