Yes according to the law, a mentally ill person who poses a danger to himself or others must be institutionalized.

But ok, does this apply to Abraham also?

Schizofrenia is the feared mental disorder associated with auditory halucinations, like you're refering to, but Its also associated with serous problems in cognition and thinking!
Even in biblical times, the person would be called disturbed at best, or the term they preferred is "posessed".

Abraham is not described this way. Hes called the father of humanity.

Doesn't matter what you believe about him. If God appeared to him the same way God appeared to Abraham, then he would be right in what He did. Abraham was over 100 years old and His son was probably between 6 and 16. Abraham had been speaking with the Lord directly for over 30 years. He was wealthy, well respected, and trusted by the people around him.

God promiced Abraham that his son would live to have many children. God had prophecied that Abraham would have a child and him and his wife were nearly 100 at the time. So Abraham's son was a mirical child. Also knowing God's promice, Abraham knew that His son would be either spared or brought back to life, because God can not lie. This was to test Abraham's faith.

What kind of faith do you have? Do you have the faith to sacrifice something important to you for God's obedience? What about sacrificing TV? Or junk food? or Internet?

Okay, as a christian, I know that God did ask Abraham to sacrifice his son and I also know that God saved Isaac. But if you are a christian and you really study the bible, you know that blood sacrifice is no longer necessary because Jesus was the true sacrifice. Thus, God telling someone in this day and age to sacrifice a child would be a contradiction of the completed work. Thus, we would know that the man in question was mentally ill. There is no problem there.

It obviously wasn't God telling him to do that...*sigh*. I hate it when people drag God into their sins and demonic train of thought. All Christian aren't the same. There may be some Christians who will and some that won't, just like there will be some other religions or non-religious folk who would and would not. Don't categorize people like that. When it all boils down, everyone is their own person.

Yeah, I would not have let my kids go play over at Abraham's tent (and yes I am a Christian).

Or what about siccing zoning laws on the guy who started heavy construction and started importing wild animals?

well in the Old Testament God tried to test Abraham by telling him to sacrifice his only son. when Abraham attempted to follow his command God sent an angel down to tell him that it was just a test. God has common sense!!! He knows that in this day and age if someone tries to kill they will be imprisoned. so the devil probably told him to do this because as i told you before God wouldn't tell him to do this. the devil tries to decieve us Christians by using halves of the scriptures from the Bible. therefore i wouldn't believe him i would call the police.

This doesn't happen very often.
You seem to think that it does.
Abraham was tested for a reason. God was testing him to see if he was good enough to make the father of the nations, thats all.

God was testing Abraham's faith to him, if God wanted to take his son he would. You left out the part about when God stopped him from killing him.

God killed his son for us! For our sins! And he is coming back someday. There is no way in the world he would tell somebody else to kill there son when Jesus already died for our sins! We have to have the faith and believe in him!
