My dad is adding on a room to our house to be my new bedroom and I am planning on painting it white and a really deep purple. My concern is finding a color carpet that will match. It's going to be hard to find a dark purple to match and I definitely don't want white... Any suggestions?

I was thinking about maybe doing a hardwood or laminate... Anyone have pros and cons for these types?

You room is going to be awesome. An answer to your question, take a look at a color wheel and see what the contrasting color is. If I am not mistaken I believe the contrast would be in the yellow or orange field. Or you could get a basic color and cover it with funky rugs. Black carpet would be cool and find a white rug with purple in it. Depending on the theme you are going for, you could alternate the purple and the white and paint stripes on your walls or even diamond shapes. Good luck and have fun with your room.

First, choose your flooring before you choose your exact paint colour.

I personally will never recommend laminate type floors. I've had them for 3 years and I have having them replaced this summer. They chip too easy, they move, the manufacturer does not follow their own warranties. If you can, have hardwood floors installed, they retain their value and easy to maintain or repair should something happen.

If you choose carpet I would suggest cream or a light taupe.
It will look good should you change your paint in the future.

Once you have your flooring, then pick the shade of paint. Someone at the paint store can help you find the right shade.

Good Luck!

Blue/green (aka aqua or turquoise) works beautifully with purple. But then you're stuck with that carpeting if you change your mind on the purple in a year or two. It's expensive to pull it back up and replace it again.

If dad's already adding a nice new room for you, go for the hardwood floors and have something that will look beautiful for years and work with any color combination that you guys decide to try.

I think the hardwood or wood-look laminate would look sharp and it is easier to decorate around, like if you change the wall color. Also, as someone else said, you could put down smaller rugs on top of it to enhance your walls and other accessories. Wainscoting would look sharp to, break up the room and really look classy. Look through some design magazines and get some ideas.

You should go with a hardwood or laminate. The wear cannot be compared. Besides Lumber Liquidators have fantastic prices that are even cheaper than carpet.

My Bedroom Is deep plum with white trim and white ceiling. I had the same problem with finding a floor color and settled with a berber smoke blue. Its closer to steel than true blue. I love it. I have wood dressers, desks ect. but my drapes and bedspread all match the walls. I think the blue floor and white ceiling make the purple pop! Makes for a very cozy retreat. Good Luck

How about a silver/grey if you decide to go with carpet? A hardwood floor would be nice too, though.

Laminate (Pergo) flooring is all the rage right now and looks good with anything. The only thing I don't like about it is the dust bunnies - you'll need to make sure you vacuum under your bed regularly.
