Take antioxidants. http://www.cancer.gov/newscenter/pressreleases/antioxidants
This is a great website describing how antioxidants help against cancer. It also has a "prevention" link to the left that has many articles on how to prevent different kinds of cancer if you are looking to prevent a particular one. Also, stay out of the sun- wear sunscreen. Good Luck!!

well....cancer can develop in anyone at any time.
even if you lead a totally healthy, smoke free life, it can 'set in'.
modern medicine and treatments have come a long way and the majority of 'common' cancers are quite easy cured, so dont get too worried about it, if you have any doubts get to the doctor early.
there are many many claims from people that doing a certain thing will reduce the risks, some like stopping smoking are more obvious and keeping out of the sun without lotion.
the real reasons for it starting are still not 100% certain....so dont worry about it and enjoy life but take whatever precautions you feel are needed.

Contrary to what the majority of experts still tell us, regular moderate sun exposure is an excellent way of reducing your risk of cancer - yes, including melanoma. You may be REALLY surprised to know that sun exposure actually increases your chances of surviving a melanoma if you get one!!
Another very good precaution is to make sure your omegas (polyunsaturates) are in balance. Most people get far too much omega-6 (in sunflower oil and corn oil) and nowhere nearly enough omega-3 (mainly in oily fish but also in some meats ans vegetables), and this imbalance greatly increases your risk of all types of cancer. The simplest rule for redressing the balance is:
Eat more fish
Cut down on chips
Switch back to butter

More and more people are getting skin cancer from sun exposure. Wear long clothes and hats, wear sunscreen with UV-A&B protection that is at least 15 factor, preferably more, or stay out of the sun. Some people who have had skin cancer actually wear sunscreen beneigth their clothes!

People think of skin cancer as being treatable, but a melanoma (cancer of a mole) is one of the deadliest forms of cancer.

Can I assume you do smoke. If you do any other health measures you could take, pale into insignificance compared with becoming an ex smoker.

Its like saying other than not cutting my leg off how can I avoid walking with a limp!

eat lots of green things, veggies. That also reduces cancer. If it is genetic, you are more than likely to get it.
