I put in a nesting box for my two parakeets, my female keeps eating off her cuttlebone, and is losing feathers. She also spends alot of time at the bottom of the cage. Is this normal for a parakeet to do if she is about to lay an egg?

This defenitaly doesnt sound normal, she may be egg bound and is stressing over it ,causing her to lose feathers. If she was doing this inside the nestbox it would be totally normal but you said it was at the bottom of the cage ,and that is totally not normal. She needs to see a vet ,if you cannot reach one keep an eye on her ,if her vent is swollen hold her rear end in some luke warm water ,that has worked for me on many occasions ,so she can pass the egg.

She probably is laying an egg(ex. losing feathers, spending lots of time in one place)
