Or, if you don't want to use the Free Linux, BSD or other free OSes, you are better off getting Windows XP.
Facts: ME was hobbled together to get a new project out just in case the DOJ ruled against Microsoft.
ME is no long supported by Microsoft. No updates, no security patches, etc.
ME has limited RAM support. It can only handle up to 800 MB or so. But, like Windows 98, it waste RAM over 512 MB.
ME is one of the most unstable Windows Microsoft ever put out.
XP Facts: It will be continued to be supported by Microsoft for the next 5 years (or more).
XP is more stable than ME and even 98SE.
Though XP says it only needs 128 MB RAM to run, it does require a minimum of 512 MB RAM to run "efficiently." More RAM allows better running.

if you haven't erased your disk yet search the hard drive for files with a file extension of .cab if you find them go to the folder where they are you should also see a file called setup.exe if you find this you're in luck copy the lot to disk and you'll have an me disk
before you install me again go here and get this it'll find your product key without it you can't reinstall windows http://www.sharewareconnection.com/windows-and-office-product-key-recovery.htm
now make a me or win98 boot disk start you computer with it and choose cd support at the command line type format c:

aside from the previous Linux ad, ME happens to be the worst version of Windoze ever. Do you have the service tag? If so, you can download a copy from Bittorrent or DC++ and burn it...assuming you have another machine to download to. You could ask a friend, or potentially go to a library and ask. Reference librarians are a wonderful thing.
