They tend to have problems with hip displacia. Similar to dark colored sheps.

German Shepherds are generally very smart and trainable... and a very good watchdog. All dogs are different, of course, but many big dogs, such as Shepherds are more prone to deseases such as hip dyspesia... make sure that the parents have been checked for that and eye disease also. Ask the breeder. Also meet the parents. If your dog tends to hop with their feet together, they may have a hip problem. Contact your vet if this happens!
Good luck, I am sure that you and your dog will be fine!

When we got our white German shepherd, we went through her extended pedigree and there wasn't the inbreeding that causes health problems. She is sooo smart, remembers people very well, obedient, easy to train, and I couldn't be happier with her.
Don't let other people discredit the WGS. They're great dogs!

I think your reading into other peoples opinions here. You have the puppy so you raise it to be a good and kind dog. I have never hear of a white shepheard being any less healthy than another of a different color. Nor have I heard of them being anything but good dogs.
Who care if it's not show worthy, it's the puppy you wanted so love it and train it and be happy your the guy who picked it out.
Your know what they say about opinions don't you????

hypertrophic osteodystrophy it occurs in dogs that grow fast it affects plates of the bones . Hip Dysplasia my aunt had a white German shepherd and she had to put it to sleep cause of that the dog was not very old. She was a good dog but since breeders have to inbreed them their health is not that great so you could end up with a bunch of vet bill to come.

Like any white dog deafness is in their genetics. Do lots of reasearch and buy the dog from a breeder not pet store.
