im goth...im gonna come right out and say it. i wear the clothes, listen to the music, and i live it...i understand that there is a mentality that goes with it, you cant just dress it, or listen to it, you have to be it. i am it...so my question is...i was in the mall. hot topic really is the only place around here i can get goth looking clothing without spending an arm on and a leg on shipping and handleing. now, im in a public place, so you would think people would maybe stare at most, but some people actually bother to call out and make a disgusted looking face as they yell something to the extent of "where the hell do you shop?" its so rude! all my lady parts are coverd unlike some of the stuff girls wear today, its just my clothes are all black, and might involve fishnet or chains. its not like i have a pentagram and 666 tattooed on me! so why bother calling me out, and not the girl with the skirt so short you can see what she had for dinner?

my point is there are other people who are dressed just as bizzarely as me, or who are underdressed to the point of indecent exposere, or have florescent pink hair. im not dressing differantly for attention, im just curious why i am getting called out when two seconds later that same person who called me out didnt yell something rude at the girl with bright pink hair and the jeans that look like a lawnmower hacked them to bits before they put them on.

I'm goth too and its incredibly rude to be called out like that. I've had people stop me in public places to ask questions like that and ask "Why do you wear all that" ect. But even though they also stand out, you stand out to them because your style isn't something they are accustomed to. The underdressed look is way more common, especially if you're in the U.S., than the goth look so it doesn't attract the same kind of attention. The best thing you can do is accept that people and they have a weird way of thinking, and the most you can do is give them a good impression of us. If they still act stupid it doesn't matter. Be goth and be proud
