Listen to those that defend their beliefs. It is not logic that they cling to, it is the ideas of religion that easily fills in the gaps of our creation that makes them feel good. Humans have an addictive personality which has helped propagate the species. If we have something that makes us feel good, we will use/think/eat it again. If it has the converse reaction, we quickly learn not to partake in it. Religion provides that easy out: "We don't know where we come from, so here is what you are to think about our creation." Sadly, cognitive processes are foregone for the easy answer.

Because people are afraid of the unknown. It's called Xenophobia and is the cause for racism, anti-religious movements and ordering spaghetti at Greek restaurants.
And yes you can have religion without morals, but religion gives us a solid, concrete code for us to follow. The Levitic law, The Analects of Confucius, and The Quranic Law are all examples of this. Without books like these we would have nothing to look to but ourselves in times of crisis.

With all due respect ....you're a tad off base.
We do need something in the religious realm to have morals.
Otherwise: chaos!
Every man for himself. Why not? Its just you and me fighting for survival.
You are right that religion IN GENERAL has been a devisive force, however, that is what could be called 'false' religion.
Religion that is 'born' ...as you say.
There must exist a true religion ...one that promotes genuine peace, dare I say: love.

Is that your conclusion? and why should accept it? You are not self realized person, and not a self enlightened one. What is your qualification? Everyone has to accept some superior authority, and we have to know the difference between something real and speculation, yours is pure speculation born from your mental concoction. Therefore has no value.

cant = insincere speech, similar to hypocrisy. The difference between the two is sometimes explained thus: the hypocrite is entirely cynical and doesn't even believe the snake oil he or she is expounding; while the speaker of cant does have conceptual faith in what he or she says—but won't actually be practicing what he or she is preaching.

Not everyone needs to know A-Z of everything to believe in God. Many are satisfied with what their religious books say and what they experience out of it.

Humans naturally seek answers. We guess and when we can't test our hypothesis, we fill in the blanks.
