I have heard that cracking your knuckles is bad for them, and I've heard that that is just a Myth.

I'm not so much interested in whether that is a Myth or not.

I'm mostly interested in whether it's possible to need to crack them. And, I dont mean regularly, I just mean, like, my knuckle feel's kinda "kinked" and it feels like cracking it might help -- but I woudln't be suprised if cracking it just made it worse. Anyone have any insight?

p.s. I dont regularly crack my knuckles -- I can't even remeber the last time I cracked my knuckles because I've always had a hard time doing it

the joints in my thumbs get stiff sometimes and it helps to crack them, it has always made them feel better.

(that whole thing about it being bad for you is just made up by some ones mother who thought it was rude to crack your knuckles, it is rude, but i think they went alittle far with the whole knuckle damage thing.)

My 11 year old daughter cracks her knuckles about 10 times a day, I cant stand the noise of it and i always thought it can cause problems in the hands later in life, I took her to the dr and he said it is ok and she will proberly grow out of it, it could be habit, she also tells me that she needs to crack them, she gets a feeling that they are out of place and she has to crack them.

I never cracked mine before and the other day my finger kept hurting i could not figure out what was wrong with it. so about 3 hours later i decide to crack it and that was what it needed. it was instantly better. So before that day i would have said no but now i say sometimes it may be needed.Sorry it did not work for you.

Contrary to the myths for years- you DO NOT get arthritis from cracking your knuckles....there is no medical reason that would make you need to do it, other than having OCD - obsessive compulsive disorder.......and the other reason people do it is because it is so annoying to others........

Ok, between your joints is a fluid called "Synvonial Fluid" this fluid has air bubbles in it. when you "crack your knuckles" the sounds come from the bubbles bursting. The more you crack your knuckles the higher risk for arthiritis in that joint,
