I saw this and I was wondering why do people put ice in water that they will soak in? Does it relax muscles or numb them? I want to know because I thinking about doing that.

the cold temperature that ice gives assists in slowing the buildup of inflammatory reaction. you can see football players sprayed on with a coolant on a possibly injured wrist. you watch them soaking their whole upper extremity in a big ice bucket. in acutely sprained ankles, you use rest, ice, compression, and elevation to temporarily encourage stability of the problem. but then you should recall that this is a temporary aid to a bruise or a sprain.
ice doesnt relax nor numb the muscles.

the only time i have heard of an ice bath is when you need to bring down a fever or like for a heat stroke or something like that.. Other than that I would say to close the pores...

i have always heard that ice water will throw ones body into shock and could be deadly. I dunno though. I would research it though before I tried it.
