Actually, this is from a chemical that is released in your brain when you sleep. It actually paralizes the body to keep you from actually acting out the motions in your dreams. People that are "sleep-walkers" lack enough of this chemical to keep them from getting up and about. Nothing to be afraid of. Just try to fall back asleep. Even if it is just for a few moments, when you awaken agian the body will have sorted out this problem and you'll be fine.

This is a very scary experience, are you on any medication that could contribute to this, or have you experience any other para normal experiences, My daughter had this happen to her, and she swears she was awake, but couldn't move, and she heard a man's voice singing "A dream that was never meant to be" after the singing stopped she flew out of bed and came crying to me. That was her one and only experience, and If you find any answers please let me know. Good luck.

I call it nightmare paralysis. I hate that feeling. I just lay there and say to myself, please wake up, over and over and over. I used to have that happen at least once every two months. I don't know what causes it but you are actually in a deep dream state. I think everyone I know has had this happen to them so I guess it is normal but I still hate it. Yuk.

I have had that happen. I hate it; it scares me to death. I heard that it was called sleep paralysis. I have not had it happen for years, thank goodness.
