I bought some of that double-sided sticky tape to keep my cats from scratching my sofa. How long do I need to leave it on there before my cats will figure out that they shouldn't scratch the furniture?

They're smart enough to only do it at night, so the tape is pretty much my only option. And I don't really know if they're even trying to scratch, since they only ever do it in the middle of the night.

I would suggest buying a cardboard scratching post that comes with catnip (ex: cosmic scratching post). Also, trim their nails. This will help so they don't scratch furniture.

Depends on the cats. Until they stop trying anyways.

Spray them with water as well, when you catch them, to speed it up
