Yes I've asked some questions that could be construed as being on the verge, but none that are plain mean. People are reading what they want to into these questions. Many questions are about christian fanatisism, its what I grew up with and know, and have so many problems with. I'm not trolling, and I'm really looking for answers. But why is it that the nastiest replies are from the Christians???
Im not poor me...ing. I came here, I asked the questions, but what the heck??

Bible thumper (also Bible basher, or Bible Beater) is a derisive term used to describe Christian fundamentalists, or anyone perceived as aggressively pushing their religious beliefs upon those who do not share them. As an insult, its target domain is broad and can often extend to anyone engaged in a public show of religiosity, fundamentalist or not.
The term alludes to a preacher thumping his hand hard down on the lectern and the Bible on it to emphasize a point during a sermon.

I understand what you mean sometimes. The main point of our faith is love, but some think that only applies to those that follow us. Those are the people we are called to love the most. There are certain things that broken away Christian groups are lacking in. Try to look at the profile of the guy, I'm a catholic 2, and you probably won't find a mean answer in the lot. Some groups try and recruit by warning them that they will go to hell if they turn away. The main message is love and they contradict that by making it seem that God is a mean God sending everyone who ticks Him off to hell. If that were the case none could stand. If I were you do a little test, type Catholics before one of your questions and see what your response is. Catholics, what is the meaning of life for example. I hope that you can realize that true Christian faith is one of love, forgiveness, understanding, and a BFF with Jesus :).
God Bless,
Elisha

While there is a lot of arguing and disagreement on this section, most of the personal attacks and the nastiest responses do tend to be from christians. The flip side, atheists, tend to be more sarcastic/facetious and less outright brutal.
Though you can get a sense of where much christian nastiness and anger comes from if you read their bible... that book is very advocative of divisive, "we're the in-group and anybody outside our group is bad" mentalities. It also preaches murder, discrimination, rape, intolerance, and so on. In that book slaughtering millions of people and murdernig children can make you a just and good person.
I suggest not worrying about what other people try to attack you with... generally personal attacks are the last recourse for the desperate and those with nothing of value to say.

i think persecuted isn't quite the word for it... but perhaps you could more carefully word your questions if what you really want are answers (and still be ready for insults). with the way you've worded a couple i can see how that would cause more of them to become a bit defensive. (although some will continue to read what they want into it & get defensive anyway--there are people in every group like that)

I don't know that the Christians as you put it are the nastiest people, I think that you are sensitive because the house you were raised in .its just that so many people are are against them that they feel persecuted so they have tendency to over react, i think that most people in general are mean, just look at the world. I think that the Muslims over react too, but that don't mean that they are all mean.

Bottom line: we're just people. From my experience there are self appointed spokespersons for any group you can think of who are mean spirited and disrespectful. LIberals, conservatives, Christians, atheists, Pagans, pick a subset!

I don't recall seeing any of your questions, but I assure you if you ask a cogent question without trying to demean or mock others, you will get the respect you want. HOW one presents a question creates the atmosphere in this place, seen it work in a number of the forums... :)

true there are some mean Christians, or at least they claim to be Christian,
try asking a Christian question and see how many mean answers you get, but you are right, we should hold our selves to a higher standard, but it is human nature to respond in kind sometimes, if I have been mean about some of your questions then i apologise.

Here's one of your questions "Why is it that most of the Christian based questions sound so dumb???" and you call them bible thumpers and you expect what in return?
Bible thumper definition:
n. Offensive.
Used as a disparaging (belittling) term for a Christian.

Because what I learned from Yahoo Answers and realized that Christians are just plain mean and disrespectful people. I really believe that we are proving a point with our beliefs from Yahoo Answers alone. It just isn't right. I have asked this question myself, but you are going to get people saying.. a bunch of nonsense watch and see. Good question.
