k. heres the scoop. im moving by car & moving truck from florida to new york 1,200 miles, 24 hours if i could actually drive straight thru, but i cant. lets say 30 then?
but....
i have 3 cats. i cant stick them into 3 cat carriers for 30 hours, they will need a litter box, and food, and to move (have you seen the size of those cat carriers)
ok, so, dog crate sounds good right? i could put them all in a crate, with a litter box, food, maybe a blanket and what ever.
but here lies the major problem.
pet crates are not made to fit in the back of a car. even if they are long enough, they are too high to fit in my little sedan, on the pulled down seats.
wighth doesnt matter though. so, i think im going to have to custom build them a cage for the back of the car.
but out of what?.even if i could weld (cant) i wouldnt know where to get those bars. and ive seen some in mesh, but they would rip that fast. ideas?? get creative. im no fool, i can build something. but out of what?

I have the same plans but the opposite from N.Y. to Fla. and my plans are this, I bought a pet carrier and 2 leashes for whenever I walk them, 1 cardboard box that I will put aside for them to poo. and that's it. I made the cats get comfortable going in and out the pet carrier so they don't feel strange the day of my trip. One special thing y got a recommendation to get some medicine from the Vet, something to calm them and make them sleepy. Hope it will help you.

You just put them in cat carriers and let them out when you get out on breaks, certainly you arent driving 30 hours straight. Have a litterbox at the ready and food. A cat's last interest is food, water or litterbox while in a vehicle, so they wont use them if you had them out anyway. They may take water on breaks, but this is all they need, they can last a looooong time in a car.

Yeah... big operation with three cats! Sweetie, I have traveled a lot with my cat. The longest sinle haul trip was a flight over the Pacific, from Manila to Los Angeles -a 17 hr flight. Factor in the car ride to the airport, the 2 hr check-in protocols; the 1.5 hrs arrival protocols at customs and the hour drive home, that was more than 20 hrs for my cat to be in his kennel. He did not pee nor did he poop (although I lined his carrier with pet pee liners). The other long lon trip was 4 days cross country from Tennessee to LA. Averaged 8 hrs a day in the kennel without being let out. Cat did his potty in portable kitty litter inside motel rooms. Anyway, what I am saying is this: your cats will be OK in SEPARATE cat carriers for the duration of your trip. Line each of the carriers with pet pee liners (or even baby diapers) for accidents. At stop overs (you will stop to eat and o potty yourself won't you?), check each carrier if liner needs changing. When you do need to change liners, LOCK CAR DOORS BEFORE opening kitty carrier so no cat can escape. Do each cat one at a time... never all together. You have to be systematic. Change the liners, feed kitties if you must INSIDE their carriers. Before you open car doors, make sure all cats are securely locked inside their carriers. Dispose of the soiled liners in garbage bags. Then you go eat. You're good to go again.

Buy enough pet pee liners! Cats will probably not be interested in eating... if they are, best to feed them wet canned cat food becuase it has water in it lready.

Tip: Cover the cat carriers with towels or blankets so the cats do not see outside... it helps calm and reassure them and will reduce all the meowing on the road. You may also consult a vet about a cat-calming pill for each of your cat if they are the sort who freak out in their carriers.

Bon Voyage!!!!

Make a wooden framed cage, covered with chickenwire on the sides and top, you can use a staplegun to fasten this in place. Partially cover it with a blanket during the trip. Cover the floor in cheap carpet as this will give them some security. Make the door reasonably smallish so you can get them out one at a time. Consider making them used to wearing harnesses so you can excercise them during the trip without loosing them. Make sure you keep your car well ventilated so they dont overheat.

You may want to go to this site and buy Cat absorbent pads for the carriers. http://www.dryfur.com

Cats have a tendency to hold it but if you are going that long you will most certainly have one or two of them have accidents, and take my word urine soaked cat is horrible for you and the cats. These pads will keep them completely Dry N comfortable.

thin frame, chicken wire so they don"t feel trapped. sheet to calm them. sing and talk they will settle. stop for fill up offer water from your old place, some dry food. walk them, cuddle in car few minutes, try litter box but they should do fine, as long as they see each other and you.

Be recommended: that's from my very very own adventure. Your cat won't consume jointly as travelling. DO have water obtainable for him, and maybe some distinctive cat treats. the only way you may desire to enable your cat out of the vehicle is on a harness which you recognize he can't get out of. Now, except he's used to this harness, you may anticipate him to "freak-out" and he won't bypass to the bathing room. don't be alarmed if he would not bypass potty OR consume for the whole holiday. Cats have a manner of putting themselves in entire "close-down" mode for various days jointly as travelling--except they are used to it. in case you haven't any longer have been given a cat provider, you're able to do one in all 2 issues: call your close by animal shelter and spot in the event that they'll sell you one in all their cardboard/disposable ones. those are large for various motives: they are sufficiently vast to in nice condition ANY cat + the air holes are placed the place your cat can't see the place he is going (a large ingredient, as many cats attempt to get decrease back to their former place of living) + they are great-sturty, I had mine for over 8 years. If this function isn't obtainable, positioned kitty in a pillow case. sure, a pillow case. they are particularly comfortable in there, and maximum commonly they'll merely lie down and bypass to sleep, mine did perfect on the passenger seat of the vehicle jointly as i replaced into driving.I by no skill did have a cat provider for this cat. furnish your kitty water ever 4 - 5 hours, and maybe a handful of kitty treats (some thing which you recognize he likes), yet do no longer anticipate him to consume an entire-on meal as though he have been at abode---he could desire to no longer consume, and he won't bypass potty the two. don't get alarmed if he would not do the two. I made those sort of journeys many circumstances and my cat by no skill ate or went potty the whole time--every time, and he replaced into none the fewer worse for positioned on for the oreal. merely remember---the greater "under pressure-out" YOU recover from the whole ingredient, the greater under pressure your cat would be--they could experience our "vibes". Oh, and BTW--because of the fact the guy above me stated having to quit at resorts, and so did I. THIS replaced into how i found out that my cat might neither consume or use the disposable clutter container (or everywhere else) to bypass potty. perfect of success to you on your bypass-united states of america holiday.

Probably not legal in some places, but my cats actually travel much much better if they are free to sleep on the seats.
