If someone is not going to let rational argument influence their beliefs, what will? What might make them change their views? I'm thinking of religious belief, of course...

binibini: Thanks for your comment. Reasoned argument can and does make me change my views.

gorgeous: I think that kind of vague "there must be something" feeling is quite common.

I think life experience and knowledge gained probably does the most to change minds.

So many people are indoctrinated from early on with stuff
that cannot be logically proved, and when they get to the age of reason they are forced to justify those beliefs. They work hard to rationalize that they have not bought the bridge and when they finally snowball themselves they don't want any logic to upset the apple cart.

Pure rationality is incapable of refuting anything religious. Rationality continues to be a great tool of believers in expaining and reasoning the Gospel.
That false assumption leads you on a fools mission. Its kind of like expecting to be able to clean a car using a piece of paper, it simply cant be used for tha purpose.

Tough question for me. I feel that there is a God. It is irrational, I know, but I really don't doubt that He exists. I tried real hard to deny His existence, I truly did. He would not let me go. On the other hand, I believe the bible is irrational and fiction. I have tried to make that point a million times to no avail. So...? I have no idea what you can do to open a mind that is closed.

Not true I Helped argue my friend out of a belief that she was driven into. A thing called Anti Gravity influenced her to change her belief. Now I have to argue her out of that without arguing her out of Christ.
