I mean a Pophet of God. As in... Proper authority, seer, revelator. Not some one who quotes the bible only--that's not a prophet

Yes, noticing all the confusion on this site, it is clear that we need a prophet to help us to understand God's word. We do have one today: Gordon B. Hinckley. I know that he is a prophet of God, both from the Holy Ghost, and by watching how my life goes at times when I follow his and God's Guidance compared to times when I do not follow what he says. The confusion in the world is a sure sign that we need a prophet, because God exists, and his truth is out there.

I think it would help greatly. Many of today's modern questions could be answered by a prophet. Isn't that what many prophets of old did?

If someone claimed to be a prophet wouldn't many Christians then bring up the same arguments that atheists bring up about not believing in God? I believe that God could have made the bible infallible, but I do not believe he did. Many verses are not understood and even debated among many Christians. Even so, there is plenty of good and correct information in the bible.

Many people claim to be prophets. Some of them even bring forth the fruit necessary for non believing Christians to seriously consider if they are prophets or not.

in the mormon church, it is prerequisite to have a prophet.

but even among the different sects of mormon, there is evil and wicked debate.

Yes a true prophet is desirable. but who can truly fulfill such a desire from God.?
Does God really choose prophets to teach his the people of this generation. and of course what does a true prophet look like. ?
i became a mormon because I received the visitation of the spirit of revelation. I stopped going to church because there is so much secret combinations within the church and politics makes things seemingly unfair to anyone that might become a true saint. I believe that satan has deceived even the general authority of the church and that stake presidents can undermine everything that is true. Even unto becomeing false teachers and false witnesses.
I myself was given certain gifts of prophecy, which agree with the early mormon/lds church, but i have come to learn through study and prayer that many things in this generation are completely opposite or 180 degrees polarized from what joseph smith taught.
Yes the world needs a prophet, and yes the world needs to ignore the false prophets and the false traditions in every religion.
I bear witness of jesus christ. I saw the glory of his visitation. I was ushered into his presense, but that doesnt mean i know all truth, i only know that there is a God in heaven and jesus is the messiah.

Amos 3:7
This verse reveals a divine principle or a pattern. God does not give every detail, but His pattern of behavior is to let His people know (at least in generalities) what He is going to do. He gives enough information, but not so much that we do not have to live by faith. Also read Daniel 12 when God tells the prophet that the meaning was sealed until the time of the end—we can see that He is clearly telling us He promises to reveal the understanding of prophecy on a "need-to-know" basis. When we need to know, He will tell us. That is His promise. So until that time arrives, precise understanding will be impossible. Therefore, anyone's interpretation of prophecy has to be understood as theory until the evidence arises that it is a true interpretation. Combinging this scripture together with Deuteronomy 29:29

The trick is to know who the false prophets are. I would look for a person who does not obtain money from the people he/she teaches. I would look for a person who does not teach on the basis of fear, but love and hope, and does not talk in a manner that "rules the fools." He/she would also not set up a church and would not say he/she was chosen of God. He/she would accept the diversity of mankind but most importantly take this diversity, tension, and conflict, and integrate it into a cooperative effort. Also, once this prophet teaches eternal principles he/she would teach others to not be dependent upon him/her for ongoing wisdom but to be self sufficient and to teach others in the same manner. I have known such people. They are among us. I am not one though.

Yes that is a prophet, there are 2 kinds of prophecy. And since Jesus has come, the older kind of prophecy has ceased.

Our true prophet is Jesus himself, he is more powerful than any prophet that ever lived. Even the apostles had more authority and power than any prophet before them because they carried the message of the Gospel!

Jesus on the other hand warned us about false prophets bringing us false "new" ideas about God. Jesus was the final revleation.

There are prophets of God today. You just don't hear about them because they don't go around calling themselves Prophet So and So. There are not only the prophets whom you seem to think are not "real" prophets...

1 Corinthians 14:3 On the other hand, the one who prophesies speaks to people for their upbuilding and encouragement and consolation.

There are people with the gift of prophecy who receive a direct communication from God to give to other people. I don't have a prophetic ministry but God has told me to pass along warnings and encouragement to people before.

One woman whom God told me to tell her that if she didn't put down her whiskey and turn to Him for healing that she was going to take her whiskey to Hell with her told me that she didn't care. I don't know what happened to her but her thriving Internet business that she had for years has disappeared and she no longer lives where she used to.

Another man whom God told me to quit rebelling against Him or he would be saying "The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away" told me that God had been telling him the same thing. He didn't quit his rebellion and now he lost his car and his drivers license and the last I heard from him he is in desparate straights.

A third man whom God told me to warn that he was falling into the same trap that Balaam had set for the Israelites told me that I didn't know what I was talking about. Soon afterwards he lost his job and his apartment and I saw him yesterday and loaned him some money because he has to pay his bills before moving into a group home for Veterans because he lost his more recent job after getting run down by a car while riding his bicycle and being unable to work.

We certainly have plenty of false prophets of god, but the fact that someone's writings were declared canonical doesn't prove anything either. Beyond tradition, I've seen no evidence that Amos and Paul were any less charlatans than Benny Hinn.

Christians don't want any more prophets. They run the church for their benefit and they are doing quite well. They are the new pharisees, sadducees, and moneylenders that Jesus kept having run ins with.

Remember that Jesus promised that his second coming would occur before the generation that he preached to had died. Either he came back and the church didn't recognize him or he came back and the church covered it up. It's clear that they wanted to keep the status quo.

I suppose there is a third alternative. Maybe he didn't come back because he was dead.
