I have this firewrire cable that looks kind'a like this:

(please click the link)
As i looked through my laptop, i found out that the plug on the right (from the picture) would fit here.
I looked through my videocam and found out that the DV plug would also need the one the right. Therefore, the plug on the left, from the picture, has nowhere to go.

How the would I use the cable if my vidcam and my laptop would both need the right plug from the picture. I can't find where I would put the one on the left.

**I need to upload a video from my DV, help! **

I think you got the wrong firewire cable. There are, I think, three types of cables. With your case, you should purchase or atleast find a 4 to 4 pin of cable since your cam and your laptop both has a 4 pin plug, it's around $20, I'm not sure though. Anyhoo, if you need to capture the vids, find a 4-4 now. Goodluck. :]

the one on the right (in the pic) is a firewire 400 and the one on the left is ilink which is for sony camcorders. there for the one on the left has nowhere to go. You need a 6-pin to 6-pin firewire 400 cable try here for low price:

Consumer level cameras use 4 pin as standard, so you almost certainly need a 4 pin to 4 pin cable. 6 pin sockets are more common for PCs though, so don't lose your old cable!

The left hand, little, plug, is for the camera. If you do not have a port on your camera for it, then the camera doesn't support firewire connectivity. The bigger plug is for the port on the computer - it's a standard size.
