I sometimes think my daughter is somewhat disrespectful, but usually I think my wife is the one who perpetuates the arguing. My wife is the one in control, and is the adult. If our daughter is doing something wrong, she shouldn't debate it indefinitely, but should resolve the issue either by dropping the argument or firmly but nicely requiring what she wants. I don't like these lengthy back and forth arguments where it's like a heated debate, and then usually my wife starts slamming around dishes and has a horrible expression on her face, and then after a few minutes my daughter goes to her room sniffling and crying. What should I think? What should I do? This has been going on for years. Like right now: after one of these argument sessions, my wife is now calling us to dinner. Really, I don't feel like eating.

Unfortunately this is part of the growing process in some relationships between mother and daughters. There is a struggle between the two during the entry to teen years. Hormones are changing, power struggles ensue. I agree with what you are saying about letting the arguement/debate go on too long and the end results. Maybe try to intervene when it gets started and sit them both down and mediate it if you can? I don't know if that's safe for you or if you have to run for cover but it sounds like maybe someone needs to get in the middle and stop it before it's goes too far.

Maybe when u r around u could take on the responsibility to discipline your daughter thereby your wife will learn that maybe your way of discipline works better. There should be no argument with a child of 10 i hope u havent left it too late.
