It's my girlfriend's birthday and I'm looking someplace nice to eat where the total bill for two (with a couple drinks or bottle of wine) doesn't exceed $80. We're staying on the Magnificient Mile if that helps.

Chicago has the best restaurants in the US, and I have been to almost every major city (LA,NY,Hou,Mia etc). Here is a few that won't dissapoint:

STEAK:
The Chop House is the best. Its on Ontario St, best steaks I have ever had , and I have tried a lot. The only thing , it can get crowded there.

Latin:
Rumba is a really good place. Its very romantic, cause there is a salsa band playing and the cusine is really good.

Pizza:
Gino's East, best deep dish pizza by far. There everywhere and well within budget.

Seafood:
Nick's Fishmarket- very romantic and upscale. Excellent seafood, its gonna be more than $80 though probally $110 or so.

Itallian:
Itallian Village- There is a reason for they have been in business for 80yrs. Excellent food and romantic.

Greek:
Greek Islands: On Halsted St. in the middle of Greektown. Within budget and good atmosphere.

All the restaurants that are listed by the others are great, but I am sure they will be more than $80! Unless you go for the Pizza or Greek Town. But if you go to Greek Town, go to Rodity's, they are way better then Greek Islands. Rodity's has complementary valet parking, and you can order appetizers, main dish and a glass of wine and get away for less than $80, but you have to like lamb or Greek Chicken--as those are the main dishes, but the food is wonderful! Gejas is the most romantic, but their average dinner is $40 per person, and that is without drinks and tip. Mia Francesca's is my favorite restaurant--it is on Clark. They also have a location that is called Francesca's on Taylor. You need reservations, and the one on Taylor is a little more intimate and romantic. Their menu is up on the internet under www.miafrancesca.com If you watch what you order, you could probably eat there and have one drink and be under 80 dollars. It is Italian and I am sure your girlfriend will love it Good Luck!

The $80 price tag might be a little tight, but take a look at these on Metromix.com - it's a great source.

In the River North (Michigan Ave.) area:
Cyrano - French
Grotto - Steak, Italian
Bistro Zinc - French
Vong's - Thai

If you venture out a little further, there are some great Italian places that are romantic.
Luna Caprese, Rose Angeli's; Vinci (all in Lincoln Park).

The prior suggestions are pretty good too. Look stuff up on Metromix and you'll find something to suit you.

The Signature room is a good place and the Cheesecake Factory. I would recommend Ralph Lauren's, but that maybe out of your budget.
