Maybe we can slow it down by a few thousand years?

Lets at least try.

We should try. They are our kids after all.

You've got to be kidding! Cost estimates for slowing global warming even a tiny bit run into the trillions of dollars. Don't you think that spending this kind of money would also have a huge effect on future generations?

In a few thousand years we may find that we are back in an ice age.

There are three major problems with trying to slow down global warming.
1) The amount of CO2 the UK produces is so small in comparison to the rest of the worlds industrial CO2 production that even if we where able to stop our CO2 production completely (Impossible by the way) the reduction would equate to six months growth in CO2 production from China.
2) The main areas in the world that will be effected by the current holyer than thou attitude of the Western World would be Africa, as slowing down actually means "No you cannot electrify your county" as re-renewable energy sources are to expensive for the western world so how can we expect the poorer counties in the world to foot the bill. In other words our lives are worth more than yours.
3) CO2 does not contribute to global warming as there is a proven 800 year delay in ice core samples between the temperature rises that have occurred in the past and CO2 levels. Secondly if CO2 was green house gas in the upper atmosphere then why has the air temperature at altitude not increase at the same rate as the temperatures at sea level.

Only of we knew for sure that we were doing the right thing and if we could do so without causing damage to the world economy. It could well be that the only thing preventing the onset of a natural ice age right now is our added carbon dioxide in the air. Also, the world economy is highly dependent on energy, and I do not favor harsh laws restricting the use of energy since that would DEFINITELY damage the economy and cause unemployment, a recession, loss of tax money, reduced medical benefits, education funding cuts, cuts in research into clean energy, or whatever. We would definitely regret it if we suffered privations to limit energy use and our reward was an ice age that caused massive crop failures and world starvation. We do not have the scientific know how to know FOR SURE what needs to be done. On the other hand, existing efforts to improve technology, like making cheaper solar panels or attempting to make a fusion reactor, are good ideas and should continue.

Global Warming IS our fault, so we should try and slow it down for future generations. Of course we should! Even if you deny that global warming is human-caused, the fact that we are pumping abhorrent quantities of waste material and exhaust into the atmosphere should still give us cause for concern - it's just logical, that we are damaging the environment, and should try and do something about it.

I noticed another mention of the so-called "Global Warming Swindle" on a previous answer. I would just like to attach the following:

http://www.realclimate.org/index.php/archives/2007/03/swindled-carl-wunsch-responds/

One of the scientists quoted in the programme talks about how he was 'swindled' into making the statements he made, and how his quotes were taken out of context. So much for C4's fair and balanced reporting.

The thing is how do you know if what you do is good or bad for the environment? If CO2 levels are too high why reduce the emmission rate? Why not remove some of the CO2 that has been dumped into the atmosphere over time by human activity?

Global warming IS our fault and we should try to do everything and anything to slow down or almost stop Co2 emissions from thickening our atmosphere. We are the cause of Global Warming and it is our duty to save the planet. We do (or they do) have the technology to efficiently produce electricity almost 100% cleaner than what we do now. But, "it is too expensive to create electricity for the world in such ways" is what they say

Yes. But to acheive us this requires a few things
1) we educate people .. even the really stupid ones
2) politics
You could argue that we could become extinct but I think while here lets make the most of it . Ultimately we need to find more space and energy outside of this planet but if we can survive the next 100 years we may get a chance of this.
Some people are too selfish to see past their short existence and do not have any values..

CO2, human use of fossil fuels (the main source of excess greenhouse gases) , driving cars, electricity from coal-fired power plants, heating our homes with oil or natural gas, and deforestation, all these factors are 'our fault.'

What can be done about global warming should be done... although, it's very unlikely that the human life we know today will exist in another 'few thousand' years despite what we do about global warming.

Well, it ACTUALLY never crosses my mind on a day to day basis. Sounds like so much political baloney (even though I know it's not - soooooo DON'T GET ALL EXCITED ALL YOU EARTHFANS and libtards alike!)... BUT.. Will cares about it! LOL He rides a bicycle instead of driving a car! haha BUT WAIT! He also smokes cigarettes and ... other stuff me tinks, AND THAT is why we have holes in ozones here! Does that have anything to do with warming?

AT_WINDOW - HAHAHAHAHA

Oh, I forgot one thing... God meant the earth to last forever.. with Him walking with US! But, ... you should read it for yourself in the BIBLE! In Genesis where He tells Adam (which means FIRST MAN) he can do ANYTHING but ONE THING! And GUESS WHAT! What would you do if you could do anything (mind you, Adam had no clue about sin or anything like that... so get your minds back up outta dat mud!) and you only had one restriction? WOW! There is temptation just a knockin at MY door, said Eve, as she listened to you know whooooo, that dirty old snake! LOL Anyway, long story short... IT DOES NOT MATTER WHAT YOU DO FOR GLOBAL WARMING! The earth is coming to an end! AND.. if you read on, the plot THICKENS!

No because if we intervene and tinker with what is going on, future generations will have serious problems. The de-facto should continue and let the nature corrects itself even if people think we, the humans, are responsible for all the evils on this planet!!

Hope this helps and thanks for the question!!
