My husband came home from work today with stomach pain, all over body aches, and a little bit of a fever. Now, its later in the day, his fever is higher (about 101) and he's been throwing up. Should I take him to the ER if his fever gets over 103?

He has the stomach flu so do not take him to ER. Give him lots of liquids to drink and let him rest. The temperature he has is his bodies way of trying to fight off the flu bug he has. IF his temp goes past 102 then give him some ibuprofen or naproxen but otherwise it needs to just run it's course. With the body aches he can take the ibuprofen or naproxen for that too.

You should take him to the ER right now. This is not something to mess with. I am worried, because the stomach pain, the throwing up and the fever could be signs of something pretty serious.

Sounds like an intestinal virus which can be nasty, but pretty short term. If his fever gets high you should consult your family physician first.. Fevers always go up in the PM and 101 isn't very high. His body is fighting the bug by raising his body temperature to kill it off.

I would probably recommend taking him to the local drop-in clinic. It sounds like a flu, which generally wouldn't require a visit to the ER. The folks at the clinic can give him anti-nausea suppositories, which will help him feel better, and allow for some fever-reducers to stay in his system.

I'm an Aussie so i go by Celcius but 101 up sounds very high to me. what did he do to get the stomach pains? can you reduce the fever? if you can't does your ER have a nurse you could talk to?

Yes, but first try 3 ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, or Excedrin) and plenty of fluids. Also, do NOT allow him to dress warmly or cover up. This will only raise his temperature. He should take a cool shower if his fever gets worse.

Take him NOW - the ER will take about 3 to 4 hours to process him, so get GOING!

you should take him to the hospital right now so that the condition doees not worsen. a fever of 101 is also quite serious. wish you luck and hope he gets well soon!
