The sludge got there only ONE way. Lack of PROPER maintenance.

Is the car still running? If it is, forget about the sludge until it QUITS running, or trade it in now before it's too late. Don't sell it to some poor sucker, let the dealer do it and HE will have to deal with the irate customer who ends up with it.

In January, Toyota settled a class-action lawsuit for some engines that are prone to sludge. They are notifying owners. The agreement provides owners of sludge-damaged Toyotas eight years plus 120 days from the original purchase date to file a complaint. The terms of the settlement are transferable to future vehicle owners. Check with a dealer about the process since you haven't received a notice.

Toyota has settle a HUGE class action lawsuit about their vehicles that sludge up and die even when all the required maintenance has been done. It seems that the standard operating procedure was to just tell the owner that it must have been their fault and deny warranty.
The main reason so many people think the japanese cars are so good is because when a problem happens with the car they blame it on the owner, and a lot of owners believe it.
When you look at the Chevy Prism, and the toyota corolla...built on the same line in the same plant with the same parts, if a prism owner has a problem they scream bloody murder, if a corolla owner has a problem..well it must have been the owners fault.

purely for a giggle take it and get yet another opinion i cant say for optimistic yet WOW to me it appears like he has motor sludge gun king up his concepts don'tt tell the different shop something in any respect and spot what they say sludge shouldn't reason the timing belt to snap sludge might starve a engine for oil and in maximum circumstances that'ss the way it reasons failure yet whilst your timing belt broke at the same time as employing it surprisingly at throughway speeds then particular you're able to do serious injury to the motor yet i think of the belt failed (advised replace out on a timing belt is 60 000 miles)what injury has befell that's difficult to declare whilst its no longer in front of you yet motor sludge i might wish for extra originality besides i may well be leary of that mechanic and little doubt approximately it if the timing belt failed there is an probability that some injury become completed you have been spectacular to think of it become the belt and there are no warning indications of a sludged up and missed motor and timing belts whilst old and wiped out smash with none sign or warning too (many of the time)

You may be able get involved in the class action lawsuit against toyota for sludged up engines. BTW, engines do sludge due to bad design, as it turned out in this case.
