1) Hot tea with honey and lemon(maybe a touch of Brandy if you're of age), chicken soup, and any other smooth, non-dairy food(dairy increases phlegm). Make sure you drink plenty of fluids! It thins the mucus.
2) Vicks Vapo Rub around the nose eases congestion, and so does saline nasal spray. Saline also changes the PH in you nose and sinuses making it less hospitable to the cold virus.
3) Take pain relievers.
3) Put on warm sweats and sit down in a comfortable spot and watch a good movie. Make sure you have plenty of Kleenex. And then wait out the cold.
Hope you feel better soon!

This is what works for me. Gargle with warm saltwater every four to six hours followed by Robitussin DM or equivalent cough syrup that works on congestion. Warm milk with pinch of turmeric and teaspoonful of sugar before sleep. And finally, lots of rest.

i feel exactly the same :( came on all of a sudden this morning. I'm just taking soluble solpadeine. Gargling it is good for the throat but have to say i'm not too fond of the caffeine in it...or the codeine, but it's all i had in the press and i'm too miserable to go out!

At night, I take Vick's Nyquil or it's equivalent (cheaper). Any drugstore can help you. Sometimes you need nasal spray. There is also stuff for daytime use. Hope that you get relief.
