So, I've been stretching my ear. Ear because one of my ears seems to not take to stretching, so my left ear is at 14 gauge and my right one is currently somewhere between 8 and 6 gauge. My question is based on this; I bought a 6 gauge taper today, and I've only got it in half the way, because it seems to be hurting more than it should. I'm afraid it might swell up like my other ear did (that's why I went back to 14g) and I really, really do not want to start over on my current ear. Let's say it swells, should I take it out, or just leave it in until the swelling stops? I've been slathering on antibacterial goo every hour or so, but I can't seem to get it to go in all the way, because it kinda hurts. Should I just put it all the way through, put on lots of bactroban and hope for the best? The taper is acrylic, and the tunnel I want to put through is stainless steel, but it wouldn't be good if my ear did swell.

ps; can I sleep with a taper in, or will it stab me in the neck? :|

14 to a 6g! of course thats going to hurt! go up ONE size at a time and wait 1 month in between each stretch to ensure proper healing when you stretch it creates tears on the insid of the ear lobes. please! do not try to shove a 6g taper through a 14g hole! you will tear your earlobe or have a piercing blow out.. buy a set of tapers on the internet and go up one size at a time.. your skipping 4 sizes right off the bat! your ears arent taking it well because you arent doing it right!!!

you better do some research more before you injur and screw yourself up!

piercing blow outs when a piercing is stretched to fast. or too larger. which you sure are doing! a blow out will make you have to take it out so the tissues can be reabsorbed and you will have to heal.. im stretching my lobes to an 8g. im at a 12g now. and ive been using tapers since 16g.. yes they are small incriments. but it is alot more comfortable then shovign a piece of jewelry in there rigth off the bat. so plaease sopt. put your 14g piercing back in. let yoru ear lobe heal then stretch to a 12g. wait a month, stretch to a 10. wait another m ore. then go to an 8g.. wait a month or more then to a 6 g.. please use tapers. and do not use
acylic jewelry in there! tapers are fine. but acrylic jewelry is not!

slight swelling is normal.. you wil have alot if you manage to get the 6 g in.. not to mention alot of painl you will be alot better of putting back in the 14g!

please do your research before atempting body modifications!

but best thing to is to massage your lobes in the shower before a stretch and put a water based lubricant on the taper so it is more comfortable . but neosporin is okay as well. and take you time! bt please stop trying before you injur yourself and put the 14 g in! asap!

and of course most likely your ears will go back to normal. so ignore the ignorant peoel who say things liek "eww why woudl you do that what would it look liek when your 50!?"

ignore them..most peopel can stretch thei ears to a 1/4" which is a 2g and their ears will go back to normal. but after a 0g there is minimal chance your ears will go back to normal size. but nothing is ever guaranteed

Its normal for your ears to swell a bit and hurt, its just something that happens when you stretch.

Never skip sizes and never do a dry stretch. Use a bit of Neosporin to lube the taper to help ease it in. If it does swell, take Midol, yes Midol for the swelling and pain and give your ears time to heal. Taking out the taper would just put you back where you were and you'd have to do it again anyway. Its also important to be sure you are waiting at least 6 weeks between stretching to ensure your ear is strong and to make sure you won't tear your ear or cause a blowout.

Furthermore, you aren't supposed to leave the taper in. Its horrible to leave acrylic in a healing piercing. Put the taper in, leave it in place for an hour or so and put the tunnels in.

If you are having this much trouble, a piercer could do the stretch for you and it wouldn't cost too much. Plus, you'd know that it was done correctly.

Wait, wait. Are you trying to go from a 14 to an 8? Bad idea. Skipping gauges is just not smart. Take your time and catch your other ear up slowly. I usually waited about a month between stretches. I wouldn't recommend sleeping with tapers in because (yes you can poke yourself!) if you sleep on it funny, you can tear the ear or stretch it unevenly. If you think you're doing it wrong, go to a professional.

the swelling is completely normal; i went from 8 gauge to 6 gauge last night and it did hurt/burn a bit more than all of my other stretches, but by the time i got up this morning, they were fine. right after i did it, it was kinda hot to the touch, and felt sore, like a new piercing; but just dont mess with it!! playing with it or rubbing it irritates it worse. leave it and see if it gets better within a day.
just give it a day, and if it doesnt go down, then you may need to go down a size and wait a bit more for it to heal there.

also, you can sleep with it in, it shouldnt stab you, i have a friend who wears his every day [cuz hes too stingy to buy plugs!]..

and; am i understanding correctly that you mean 1 of your ears is at 14, but the other is going from a 8 to a 6? the other girl thought you were jumping 4 sizes, but you just meant that you stopped stretching one, but continued the other, right?

Don't do that. How do you think it is going to look when you are 40?
