the pay is usually correlated to the cost of living.

Last I heard a city in California's Officers are the top and are paid just over $100,000 for a base level patrol officer. I can't remember the city (wasn't one of the big like LA) but I read it in an article in a LE magazine recently. Their paychecks look great but house prices are out of control there.

Nassau and Suffolk Counties NY have been the highest paid since the late 70s. Both leap frog over their respective contracts when they come for renewal

Currently Officer with five years experience (top grade) earn over 115K per year plus perks.
